Position Summary
The Single Cell Analysis Core of the JP Sulzberger Columbia Genome Center within the Department of Systems Biology provides single-cell library preparation, sequencing, and analysis services to a diverse group of researchers both within and external to Columbia University. The Core primarily focuses on single-cell RNA-seq and supports 10x Genomics products as well as an internally developed plate based single-cell RNA-seq platform. The Core is currently seeking a bioinformatics analyst to operate data processing pipelines and perform analyses for Core users. Training will be provided so that the analyst can ultimately maintain and update the Core’s pipelines and perform more complex analyses.

The successful applicant will join the Single Cell Analysis Core team, which is located in the Department of Systems Biology, a vibrant hub for interdisciplinary research.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will be required to carry out the following duties and responsibilities:
Operate the Core’s cloud-based data processing pipeline.
Ensure that samples are processed and released to Core users.
Address Core users’ questions about data analysis and processing.
Perform project-specific, custom single-cell data analysis for Core users.
Communicate analytical results to Core users.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor degree in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, Genetics, or related field or equivalent in education and experience; plus three years of related experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Knowledge and experience with the Amazon Web Services cloud computing platform.
Familiarity or experience with single-cell RNA-seq.
Experience with R/Rstudio, ggplot2, Javascript.
Experience or expertise in statistics and applied math.
Other Requirements
Familiarity with common bioinformatics file formats: fastq, bam, bed, gff, etc.
Familiarity with a common statistical programming tool (e.g. R/Rstudio, iPython, Jupyter, etc.).
Understanding of basic statistics.
Working proficiency with the Python programming language.
Working proficiency with the Linux shell
Basic understanding of biology, particularly genomics and molecular biology
